Saracen - Aug 6th 2009

Today, the conditions were excellent to dive on the Saracen. We dropped the anchor on starboard side mid ship at the level of the boiler. It was a bit of the wreck, so we had to pull it back a bit, closer to the hull. We went to the forward side of the ship wreck, accross the forward hatches. We reached the forward deck area and I noticed that the forward hawse-hole was detached from the hull and hanging on the side. We went down to the seabed, this is a very impressive view of the wreck. On our way back, I noticed that a lot of damages were done to the portside forward side shell, some steel plates have beem teared off by fishing nets probably. There is a large fishing net indeed that is laying on top of the wreck. Back to the boilers, we saw a couple of broken pieces of dishes and we decided to continue our journey toward the aft the of the ship. We went about 20 m past the engines and I decided to go back to the anchor as we already had 15 mn of stops showing on the computers. Back to the anchor, I held the winch and Claire inflated the buoy, which started to lift off the anchor and the chain.
